Eat it Forward - 5M Black Owned Restaurants

A $5 million commitment to Black-owned restaurants — turning a moment of crisis into a platform for community support and awareness.

As COVID-19 devastated the restaurant industry, Black-owned businesses were disproportionately hit. Rather than a traditional grant process, we built #EatItForward as a social-first nomination campaign — asking people to publicly celebrate their favorite Black-owned restaurants on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, with 200 winners selected at random to receive $25,000 each.

I led the concept of focusing on the individual restaurant owners as well as the digital creative across the campaign's launch — the landing page, and founding restaurant features, including Rodney Scott's BBQ, Post Office Pies, and Back in the Day Bakery. As Discover's VP of brand communication put it: "By sharing and tagging various Black-owned restaurants, it will help create awareness for some of these amazing places to eat."

Universal Login

A reimagining of the ui and ux of the login experience that involved 5 lines of business as well as leadership awareness and approval, changing everything from nomenclature to error states.

Led UX as a part of a larger cross-functional digital organization. Our job was to find opportunities  across the digital landscape of Discover that could use enhancements or reimagining. By examining the site, I discovered the broken experience our users may encounter as a current customer navigating through other lines of businesses. These variances included different naming conventions, visual treatments and experiences upon clicks and errors.

As a result, we were able to create flexible experiences that were tailored to the needs of the individual product users, yet keep the experiences relative to one another no matter where the user traveled.

Balance Transfer landing page

In an effort to increase in engagement for key search terms around balance transfer, my team  executed the strategy, ux/ui and copy for a new landing page based around educating prospects while introducing our product.

I led the creative for the launch of our new page that was part of a larger initiative to improve key non-branded search terms. This landing page helped us begin to create larger systems and components based around the copy needs of SEO pages and stretched our knowledge of AEM in the process. Although the copy heavy nature of SEO created challenges, the team definitely delivered and earned an IHAF honorable mention from it.

D.com Redesign

As we were working through defining how our fresh new brand would evolve into real deliverables, I pitched a redesign of our d.com landing page that utilized recent testing strategies and user research to create one of our most successful redesign efforts to date.

I led the redesign effort from end-to-end. We created templatized placements for all sections that gave governance around everything from typography to color and shape language usage.

Before

Bio

I'm a UX leader with over 20 years of experience building teams and products around one core belief, that great ideas can come from anywhere. For the past decade I've led UX teams at Discover Financial Services and Capital One, where I've shaped the digital experience for millions of credit card applicants from first click to final submission.

My focus has always been on the intersection of research, design and business outcomes. I've built and led A/B testing programs grounded in real user data, aligned cross-functional teams around shared design systems and bridged the gap between design leadership and business stakeholders during high-stakes timelines. Whether I'm optimizing a landing page for conversion or leading a team through a major platform migration, I care about clarity, consumer ease and measurable impact.

Before moving into UX leadership, I spent years as a designer and art director building brand identities, campaigns and collateral for clients ranging from BMO to Ebony Magazine, work that taught me how to think like a creative and execute like a strategist.

I'm currently exploring new opportunities where I can bring that same blend of leadership, curiosity and craft to a team ready to grow.
